Dos Equis Pavillion Dallas

DOS EQUIS PAVILION
Dallas, TX

Dos Equis Pavilion is an outdoor covered amphitheater (but not the lawn seats, you're exposed😳) that is host to a variety of musical guests, sure to invite one of your favs!  It has changed hands over the years and currently seats 7,500 guest under the pavilion and 12,500 on the lawn.  It is the longest running outdoor venue in Dallas...rock on (insert sweet guitar riff)!!

PARKING:

We opted for the upgraded VIP parking for $30 since we had never been to this venue and even though the Dallas skyline is one of the best, especially lit up at night, we didn’t want to end up walking all across downtown after the concert.  There were tons of accessible parking spots by the entry gate in lot 8 where we parked. There is also accessible parking in multiple other lots (see map below).  There were numerous entry lines so it was fast getting in.  Luckily, my friend is a T-Mobile carrier and they had a designated lines for carriers and we got in even faster!  We were also told that being a T-mobile carrier would give access to an express lines at the food vendors as well.  We ate prior to the concert so we did not test this out.  An express line to food and drinks, yes please!

STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS:

The main entry area of this venue is grea. It's spacious, there are loads of drink and food vendors and of course a fully stocked merch tent (concert T's are the best!).  If you have assigned seats (vs open lawn seats) it is fun to arrive early and check it out.   If you get lawn seats or upgrade to the cabana area seating, I would advise getting there early and head on to get a seat.  It is first come, first serve. Another bonus of this venue is you are allowed to take in up to one gallon of factory sealed water in a soft sided cooler (save that water money for a margarita!)  For those who get lawn seats, there are drink vendors at the very back of the lawn area so you don't necessarily have to go back to the main concessions area.

SEATING:

We did decide to upgrade to the Dos Equis Lonestar Cabana seats because it was calling for it to be very hot that evening and we wanted the option for shade.  With this upgrade you also get a private bar and bathroom (a very nice porta potty😁) with these tickets.  There are 2 cabana areas, one was at the front of general lawn seats and was accessibe and the other was at the back of the lawn seats and was not accessible.  If you want seats located under the covered area, accessible seating is on the back row and you can call for these seats.  For lawn seat tickets, you can also take small umbrellas, blankets and low lawn chairs (you can even rent seats there) to most concerts.  It is best to check prior to the event to make sure you can take these items to your specific concert, it can vary.  All the info you need for what you can and cannot take is listed on their website (see link below)

Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament

MEDIEVAL TIMES

Jousting, knights, a queen, and all the medieval torture devices, yes please!  This is dinner theater at its best. Enter a time warp and enjoy the sites and sounds of ye old days. You will enjoy a multi course dinner (there is even a vegetarian option) while watching medieval tournament games. There are 10 locations throughout the country and one in Canada.  I would highly recommend a visit especially for those renaissance fair lovers out there. This write up is based on the Dallas, TX location.

Parking:

There are a couple spots around to the side of the entrance.  It would also be easy to drop someone near the front and park. We arrived about 90 mins before the doors opened and parked to the side of the building. When walking up to take a picture of the front of the castle, I saw a few spots in front of the entrance that were open, there were not accessible spots but they were close.

Tickets:

One negative is that you cannot reserve accessible seating.  When you arrive you wait in line until the doors open and proceed to the ticket counter.  There you let the ticket  counter know you need accessible seating and they put you at a table on the top row. The arena is bowl shaped so the top row is the same level as parking, the entrance and lobby.  Since you cannot prearrange seating, I would recommend arriving 75-90 mins early to assure top row seating.

Pre Dinner Entertainment:

For a mere $2, you can feast your eyes on medieval torture devices.  We sadly did not do this, but I wish we would have!

You are able to see some of the incredible horses used in the shows in the side lobby.

And of course more merch than you can possibly carry.

SO...LOOK OUT FOR A COUPON, PUT ON YOU BEST CHAIN MAIL AND LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!

Fort Worth Zoo

FORT WORTH ZOO Lions and tigers and FLAMINGOS, oh my!!!!  I love those guys, and gals!  We ventured out to the Fort Worth Zoo on a Tuesday summer morning right when it opened. There was not much of a crowd to contend with which was nice, Wednesdays are half price tickets so maybe they were all waiting for the following day! I am definately a bargin shopper but it may be worth the extra money to have a low volume zoo day. It also wasn’t overbearingly hot so we lucked out.  I must say, one reason I love this zoo so much is that it is really well designed and very shaded! There are plenty of spots to stop and rest along the way as well.  It's always a bummer when you are at a big venue and all you want to do is find a place to rest and you have to keep going. That is definately not the case here. The array of animals does not disappoint either!

ABOUT THE ZOO: The Fort worth zoo is currently ranked the #4 zoo in the nation by USA Today!  In addition, the African Savanna was ranked #6 in best zoo exhibits!

PARKING AND ENTERING THE ZOO:

There are plenty of accessible parking spots near the entrance and the entry gates are nice and wide.  The ticket counters are a little high so someone else may need to grab the tickets. Bathrooms are located right inside the entrance but there is an abundance of bathrooms throughout the zoo.  There are motorized scooter rentals for $30 per day and free wheelchair rentals but they are limited and first come first serve.  Those are also located right inside the gate. My photography is not very skilled, the enterance is so much closer than it appears in these pictures, but you can see that there are numerous accessible parking spots available right near the entry gates.  In the worse case senario of no accessible parking, one could easily be dropped off by the entry while someone parks the car.
FEEDING TIME (FOR YOU NOT THE ANIMALS):

This is probably my favorite part of any venue;)  Many of the smaller snack shacks were not open early Tuesday morning, but I am sure they are on more high volume days like the weekends.  The restaurants open around 11 so if you are needing something before that, there are vending machines available.  The other nice thing is you can bring your own food and drinks into the zoo.  How great is that!  You can see the restaurant options listed in the map below.

ZOO LAYOUT AND GETTING AROUND:   (Photo credit, Fort Worth Zoo website) I do like the layout of the zoo, the entrance is in a central location and the different exhibit areas spike off from there.  It's nice that after exploring one section, it's not a far distance to get back to the central area to go onto explore another area.  The walkways are wide, the inclines are not too steep and many parts even have railings. The longest section is the MOLA to Australian Outback to the Texas Wild section.  Near the Texas Wild area there are shops, eating areas, and a playground for the kids. This is a great place to rest before heading back to the main area.  Asian Falls, African Savanna and the World of Primates areas are not as lengthy.  Some exciting news to mention here is in 2020 Elephant Springs will open! Maybe Dumbo will make a cameo:)

SHOWS:

There are daily animal shows, you can refer to the webite to see times, locations and which animal they will chatting about.

So grab those fellow animal lovers and get ready for a Grrrrreat time (sorry, had to do it)!
